Below are some software tools that you can use to capture audio for your podcast.

 

Audacity is an open source application to record and edit audio. It's available free for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

 

Audio Hijack is for Mac OS X platform. You can download the demo version for free or buy it for $16.

 

Total Recorder is a windows based program. There is a standard and pro edition available. You can download a demo version for free or buy it for $18.

 

GarageBand is part of the iLife product suite. for the Mac platform. It allows you to record and edit audio. iLife costs $79.

 

Audition is a high-end audio recording and edition program for both Windows and Mac. The current edition costs $349.

 

Odeo Studio is a free recording and podcast hosting site. The catch? They put a 3 second advertisement for their service into podcasts downloaded via their RSS feed.
